Unfortunately, the designers of ACT! did not adhere to the industry standard size for dBase tables.  We work around the issue in the contact table.  However, if the Group table has been expanded beyond the 255 limit, fields will need to be deleted.   To do this, follow the steps below.  It is always a good idea to make a copy of the database prior to making modifications to its structure.

1.  Select Define Fields from the Edit menu in ACT!

2.  Select Group from the Record Type Dropdown.

3.  Select a field to be deleted and then click the Delete Field option.

4.  It's always a good idea to reindex and compress the database after doing this  Select File>Administration>Database Maintenance. Make sure the Compress Database box is checked and then click the Reindex... button..
